Flaying the SPF Government for allegedly failing to translate into action contents of an MoU on March 31 2006 All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) said it would not entertain any further appeal for lifting the ongoing economic till the demands are honoured.
ATSUM also invited views, opinions and stands of political parties and aspiring tribal candidates on the tribal reservation policy and issues of the State.
In a statement issued by its information and publicity secretary Joseph R Hmar, ATSUM reminded that considering the plight of the marginalized tribal people with regard to basic education proposals were placed before the State Govt for adequate posting of teachers in the tribal areas and provision of basic infrastructure in the schools.
Despite the matter highlighted during the entire tenure of the O Ibobi Singh-led SPF Govt the issues had been intentionally delayed through 'false MoU', said the statement.
ATSUM pointed out that issue pertaining to 'The Manipur Reservation of Vacancies in Post and Services (for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) Act 1976 were raised to pave the way for the long delayed justice to the tribal people of Manipur.
The SPF Govt amended the Act as 'manipur Reservation of Vacancies in Post and Services (for SC/ST) Rules 2006' with many intriguing points and clauses that can be misinterpreted and misused to the disadvantage of the tribals, charged the ATSUM statement.
In addition to neglecting issues concerning welfare of the tribal community due to ambiguity of the reservation policy/Act the SPF Government continues to deliberately ignore clauses of the MoU that recruitment of teachers specifically for tribal area schools on contract basis from among 'qualified local candidates, it added.
