Kanglei Ningol Khudol Handloom Exhibition cum Sale organised by the Apunba Kanglei Shinnaibi Lup (AKSIL) was opened today at GM Hall.
The exhibition being organised with a view to the Ningol Chakkouba festival would continue till October 19 .
All kinds of handloom products produced by weavers of the state are being exhibited and sold at the fair.
The opening function of the exhibition was graced by Chairperson of the Manipur State Women Development Corporation AK Mirabai, Chairperson of Imphal Municipal Council M Ranisana, AKSIL president Th Gomti Leima, Directorate of Commerce and Industries OSD (Handloom) M Rajen, proprietor of Kangla Food Products A Birendra and secretary of Handloom Promotion Council S Chingtam Luwang as presidium members.
Some selected weavers and AKSIL volunteers were also feted during the opening function.
Giving key-note address of the function, AKSIL general secretary N Pemcha called upon the people to use local handloom products while presenting Ningol Chakkouba gifts to their sisters and daughters instead of costly articles imported from outside the state.

She also called for support to weavers of the state in order to regain the lost work culture of the nation.
She exhorted the people to cultivate work culture with a view to make Manipur economically self-reliant.
S Chingtam Luwang said that protection and promotion of handloom is saving Manipur.
Even as handloom provides a source of income to the people of Manipur, the Government has done very little to promote handloom industry, he decried.
Observing that the Government has no handloom policy, Chingtam lamented that weavers of the state cannot meet even local demands.
A Birendra emphasised the importance of diligence and sincerity in making the state's economy self-reliant.
A magazine titled Shinnaibi Vol II was also released at the function.
