Imphal, October 12: Students of various colleges have rose up against the termination order issued by the State Government against the part time lecturers.

Strongly protesting alleged irrational conduct of the Government, students sealed many colleges.

Shouting slogans like, "Ensure proper education to students", "We condemn termination of part time lecturers" etc, students of Modern College set ablaze effigies of Education Minister at about noon today.

A member of Modern College Students' Union declared that they have launched the stir to seal their college indefinitely with effect from today.

Burning the effigies of the Education Minister and Education Commissioner, Imphal College students condemned the conduct of the State Government.

Taking strong exception to the termination of part timers rather than solving the issue amicably, Oriental College students have also sealed their college indefinitely after the State Government failed to provide any positive response despite its class boycott stir undertaken yesterday and the day before.

Disclosing that Oriental College had 23 part time lecturers, the Students' Union of the College observed that without the part time lecturers, the regular lecturers could not conduct full classes.

Asking to frame a pragmatic and a long term policy, they appealed to the State Government to save the career and profession of students and teachers.

They further construed that the absence of a viable policy concerning the issue of aided colleges and part time lecturers is a malicious attempt to deny education to thousands of students.

Meanwhile, the Students' Union of Presidency College, Motbung has warned of launching economic blockade along NH 39 if the issue of part time lecturers is not resolved amicably at the earliest.

Condemning the termination of part time teachers, the Presidency College students set afire effigies of Advocate General, Education Minister and Education Commissioner.

On the other hand, a statement issued by SFI Manipur State Committee alleged that the part time lecturers were terminated to sideline the raging issue of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act 1958.It further flayed the conspiracy of the State Government to create a State wide issue by forfeiting the mean of livelihood of the part time lecturers who have suffered for more than 20 years.

They also urged for an alternative arrangement at the earliest.

A press release issued by the Motbung Village Authority informed that termination of part time lecturers has seriously affected the academic atmosphere and normal functioning of the Presidency College.

Conveying serious concern over the termination of part time lecturers while the College is facing acute shortage of teachers, the GP Women's College Students' Union has urged the State Government to redress the woes of the students immediately.
