Imphal, June 12: Acting on the information of some local people about some UG cadres indulging in extortion in Thonglan Akutpa area along IT road, 14 AR sent a patrol party at the area in the wee hours today, informed a PIB (DW) release.

As the patrol party approached Gelnel village under Kangpokpi police station, 4/5 armed UG cadres clad in combat uniform tried to flee.

However, when the patrol party chased them, the UG cadres opened fire which was retaliated by AR troops resulting in the death of four KNF (P) cadres.

One LMG, and one M-16 rifle along with a sizeable quantity of ammunition were recovered from the possession of the slain cadres, claimed PIB (DW).

Major Dhahiya who led the patrol party also sustained a minor injury in the gun fight.

With the corpses being handed over to Kangpokpi PS, process is on to establish the identities of the slain UG cadres, added the release.
