Anti-airport expansion stand stiffens

Imphal, February 10: Even as the MPP held a press conference today to question the Government over the wisdom of acquiring more land for the proposed upgradation of Tulihal airport to an international standard, the JAC Against the Land Acquisition for Expansion and Extension of Imphal/ Tulihal Airport today evening at about 7 toom out a rally to protest the move of the Government.

Earlier in the day today, MPP president during a press conference questioned why the Government is so adamant of going about with the expansion plan though it has been opposed by the affected people.

Rally being staged against the move of the Govt to expand the Airport area for its upgrdation

The airport is near the city, he explained and posed why the Government is so keen to expand it generally airports are located far away from the capital.

Manipur Peoples' Party will investigate why an international should be taken up so near the capital city.

Chandramani also reminded that the plan to develop Greater Imphal, which includes the airport area comes under the Plan.

Meanwhile to protest the expansion plan the JAC toom out a rally today at about 7 pm.

The rallyists from Ningombam, Malom, Monsangei started their march from their respective places and converged and Ghari Makha Leikai.

Local MLA RK Anand's residence was their target but the rallyists were stopped near the gate of Imphal College and they were made to turn back.
