ADB fund to revamp Imphal-Moreh stretch

Imphal, August 08, 2013: Chief Minister Okram Ibobi has said that Imphal-Moreh section of NH-2 will be revamped with Rs 1200 crore fund from Asian Development Bank.

He was speaking as chief guest at the Golden Jubilee celebration function of Thoubal College today.

Saying that Imphal airport would become an international airport soon, Ibobi expressed hope that railway line construction from Jiribam to Imphal would be completed by 2017. Maintaining that people of the State must put in effort in their respective fields to take part in the global advancement, Ibobi also exhorted the students to do something for social cause and future generation.

Minor Irrigation and IPR Parliamentary Secretary K Meghachandra, Wangjing Tentha AC MLA Paonam Brojen, Sugnu AC MLA K Ranjit, Higher and Technical Education Commissioner V Vaiphei, Thoubal DC T Ranjit, University and Higher Education Additional Director Dr RK Yaiskul and Thoubal College Principal Okram Chaoba also attended the function as presidium members.

Prior to the formal function, O Ibobi unveiled a memorial stone erected in memory of the late founder members of the college.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated an indoor stadium of the college constructed with the fund of Rs 70 lakh from University Grant Commission.

Later, in a formal function held at the indoor stadium, two teachers who took active part in setting up of the college, were offered Guru Puja.

A souvenir of the eight-day long Golden Jubilee celebration and a booklet entitled, 'History of College' were also released in the function.

While Founder members, former Principals and former General Secretaries of College Students' Union were feted with mementos, top rank holders of the college in the 6th semester examinations of BA/BSc 2013 were given prizes.

Blood donation, debating competition, extempore speech, symposium, English and Manipuri recitation, modern song, cultural programmes, fashion show, man hunt competitions and saplings plantation drive were the main highlights of the eight-day long celebration.

A photo exhibition of the late founder members of the college was also organised as part of today's function.
