Apparently linked to monetary demand of Rs 5 lakhs made against Babina Clinic and Research Centre, RIMS Road, suspected UG elements launched a grenade attack at the Clinic at around 6:10 pm today injuring four persons including two of its staff members.
The injured victims are identified as Chongtham Dijen (23) of Lalambung, Ningombam Romita (29) of Thongju, Thangjam Sarat (60) of Lalambung and Kiyam Suraj (20) of Moirang Kiyam but presently staying at Keishampat Thiyam Leikai.
It is said that Dijen and Romita are staff members of Babina Clinic.
They were supposed to man the counter till 8 pm.
As for Sarat, he used to come to the counter of the Clinic everyday to watch TV.
And Suraj runs a cosmetic store at Governor Road.
The incident took place while he was coming along RIMS Road.
According to information received by press, PULF had demanded Rs 5 lakhs from Babina Clinic some months back.
Today at around 6 pm, two unidentified youths came on a Honda Activa and parked their vehicle near Babina Clinic.
One of the youth came inside the clinic and hurled a Chinese hand grenade towards the counter before running away immediately.
In the grenade explosion, the two staff members who were at the counter then, Sarat who was watching TV and commuter Suraj were injured by shrapnel.
All four of them were rushed to RIMS.
Out of them, Sarat suffered the most.
He sustained injuries at stomach, armpit, chest, thigh and buttock areas.
It is reported that the attackers made their escape good using the Honda Activa.
