Imphal, Jun 07: The bill seeking to exempt disqualification of MLAs from the purview of office of profit has been re-submitted to the Governor Dr SS Sidhu today with slight modification in the text of the Bill passed for the second time by the State Assembly after it was returned by the Governor.

The Manipur Legislature (Removal of Disqualifications) Fourth Amendment Bill 2006 was minutely discussed by the Chief Minister O Ibobi singh and his ministerial colleagues assisted by State's Advocate General and Law Secretary this morning after which the Bill was forwarded in the evening hours for the Governor's assent.

According to informed source the top level congregation sorted out certain section of the Bill that could have legal or constitutional implications after enactment.

While there is no change in the number of posts which the Bill seek to exempt the MLAs from legal implications, slight omissions were made in the text of the Bill including differentiation of posts inevitable for the CM to hold while in office to those from the MLAs.

Other minor amendment in the Bill relates to detailed definition of posts of governing body or committee to be held by MLAs; endorsing legality on ruling of Court or Tribunal; restriction on claim of reinstatement as contained in Clause 4(II)&(III) with reference to the said Bill.
