Imphal, Jun 06: The observation of June 18 as unity Day this year at GM Hall would be preceded by mass poster campaign on June 14 to remember the opposition of the against the sinister ploy of the Government and obituary to departed souls and victims of the June 2001 uprising at Hotel Excellency on June 16, informed All manipur united clubs' Organisation (AMUCO).

Explaining on the theme of the day, UCM highlighted the changing global scenario and threat posed to the age-old bond between the hill and valley people of Manipur due to presence and reliance of politicians/public figures with vested interest to divide the people on narrow line of community and religious affiliation and advocating the theory of local-centrism.

The Naga-Kuki clash, kuki-Paite feud and strain in relationships between hill and valley dwellers are some of the many fallouts of the divide and rule policy of the Government, AMUCO opined while calling upon the people to defy such evil advances through unity and conscious efforts.

The Unity Day observation has become even more significant and inevitable to eliminate certain destructive elements present amidst the society under the guise of public leaders and donning colours of political entities, said the organisation while recalling its relentless endeavours with other social and student bodies to uphold the integrity of Manipur.

Since formation of Committee for Peace and Integrity in 1996, AMUCO along with tribal, non-tribal and student organisations have had conducted 915 camera meetings apart from reaching 1500 villages to spread the message of peace and brotherhood, it added.
