Governor Dr SS Sidhu has greeted the people of Manipur, specially the Sikh community on the auspicious occasion of Guru Nanak's birthday, to be celebrated tomorrow.
"Transcending societal barriers of caste, creed and religion, encompassing followers and non-followers and leaving behind an eternal message of peaceful co-existence among human beings, the teachings of Guru Nanak are a logical path to salvation, through love, compassion, mercy, forgiveness and renunciation of materialistic desires," Dr Sidhu said in his message.
In celebrating 'His Birthday, along with paying our obeisance to this outstanding apostle and harbinger of peace and non-violence, we have to resolve to follow his ideals, principles and ethnical values, Dr Sidhu exhorted.
Meanwhile, on the eve of Guru Nanak's birthday, Amrik Singh Pahwa has reportedly distributed sweets and biscuits to the inmates of Blind school at Imphal.
In a statement, the press secretary to Pahwa informed that surprise gifts will also be presented to all passengers visiting Manipur Goodwill Travels on purchase of air tickets tomorrow as mark of respect to Guru Nanak.
The service charges on purchase of Air Deccan tickets would also be reduced to half in the interest of serving the people of Manipur, the statement added.
