Impal, Aug 01: To monitor functioning of the Public Distribution System (PDS) in Manipur, Vigilance Committees have been set up at the State, District and Fair Price Shop level.

The Committee at the State level would be headed by Commissioner of FCS as Chairman.

Director of FCS and Deputy Commissioners of Imphal East and West would be members while Joint Secretary/Deputy Secretary (FCS) would be convenor/member secretary of the Committee.

At district level in the valley, Adhyaksha of the Zilla Parishad will be Chairman, Zilla Parishad member of the concerned Kendras, SDOs, prominent social workers/NGOs and executive officer of Zilla Parishad would discharge duty as members of the Committee.

Whereas in the Hill districts, the Deputy Commissioner would be chairman, Chief Executive Officer of District Council would be member, SDOs and prominent social worker/NGO would be convenor and Additional Deputy Commissioner/Assistant Commissioner to DC would be convenor/member secretary of the Committee.

At the sub-divisional level, SDO would be the chairman, Pradhans of the Gram Panchayats concerned/Members of District Councils (in case of hill )/Municipality/Nagar Panchayat Councillors/SDCs and prominent social workers/NGO would be member and SDC Headquarters would be the convenor.

At the Fair Price Shop level, Pradhan of the Gram Panchayat would be the chairman, member of the related ward/local club president of the ward would be member and related Panchayat member would be secretary/convenor.

In urban area, the Councillor concerned would be chairman, local youth club president, one woman social worker and one nominee to be appointed by the Councillor would be the members.

In hill area, the headman/village chief of the area which has the ration shop would be chairman and local youth club president, a local woman social worker and a nomiee would be the members.

These committees would ensure that the essential commodities are made available to the people through the pUblic Distribution System besides monitoring its smooth functioning.
