Imphal, January 31:
Accusing MPP candidate in Langthabal A/C Okram Joy of embezzling public fund, the Lok Janshakti Party candidate in the same constituency Karam Shyam has decided to take up legal actions against the MPP MLA.
Speaking to reporters today at his Chajing Karam residence, Shyam disclosed that in the name of some development works undertaken by PDA at Langthabal Kunja and Chajing areas, O Joy embezzled public money from his MLA Local Area Development Fund by including the same works undertaken by PDA under his MLAD fund.
For misappropriating a huge amount of public money in the name of works undertaken by PDA, the State Vigilance Department should investigate the case, Shyam demanded.
Joy misappropriated Rs 50,000 by floating the story that the road at Langthabal Kunja Awang Leikai was repaired from his MLAD Fund even as the same road was repaired by PDA at the estimated cost of Rs 3.15 lakhs, contended Shyam and added that this was nothing but duping the people of Langthabal AC.
The MPP MLA further embezzled Rs 2 lakhs by proposing two works under his MLAD Fund against the fencing work around a community pond of Langthabal Kunja Makha Leikai, although the same work was implemented by PDA at the cost of just Rs 50,000, Shyam asserted.
Moreover, O Joy fraudulently withdrew Rs 75,000 twice in the name of developing a road at Chajing Mairenkhong by dividing the road into two.
The same road was developed by PDA under its IDHQ programme at the cost of Rs 75,000. Saying there are numerous cases of misutilisation and embezzling public fund, the Lok Janshakti candidate estimated that the total amount misappropriated by MLA Joy would cross Rs 1 crore.
When he cannot view even his own constituency selflessly, O Joy's promise to preserve the integrity of Manipur is another blatant lie aimed at deceiving the people of the Constituency, Shyam declared.
He further maintained that unlike MPP, filled by tainted leaders, his party would not make any tall promises concerning AFSPA and integrity.
Shyam further appealed to the people to decide whether to remain under the spell of the incumbent MLA any longer or not.
