To preserve ecological balance and replenish forest cover which had undergone large scale denudation due to ever increasing human habitat, Foundation for Environment and Economic Development Society (FEEDS) has launched 'Green Project' in ten selected villages of Senapati district.
According to FEEDS general secretary KD Gangmei the project was conceived to not only encourage people living in rural areas take active part in environmental conservation programmes but enhance economic sustenance.
The multi-benefit project being carried out has the approval of United nations Development Programme with financial assistance of Guwahati based Centre for Environment Education which is a unit of the UN body, Gangmei briefed reporters in one of the project site located at Chini-Ingkhol of Senapati district where a project extension programme was held today.
Under the project emphasis is being given to plantation and development of orchids and cardamom at reserved forests area.
