Imphal, June 14: Commandos of Imphal East dist lathi charged a large numbers of students who had come to meet the Chief Minister as well as the Governor near Sajenthong this afternoon at around 1.30, said sources.

Sources further informed the incident occurred when students numbering about 1000 from different school marched towards the Chief Minister's office to meet Chief Minister on the part timers agitation.

However when the students reached Sajenthong, police commandos on duty in the area refused the students to proceed further and asked them to return immediately.

Angered by the conduct of the commandos, some of the students started pelting stones at the police team which later resulted in a lathicharge by the commandos to control the unruly students, said the source.

A constable of the Imphal East Dist commandos identified as AS Ngaranmi from Ukhrul was injured during the face off with the students.

Immediately after the lathicharge, the students once again gathered at the CC Higher Secondary campus and convened a meeting.

Members present at the meeting unanimously resolved to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister as well as the Governor demanding for an immedaite end to the ongoing stir of the part timers.
