Imphal, April 17:
An unidentified woman resembling a Manipuri was found strangled to death with tell tale signs of sexual molestation today at Kohima.
Post mortem is set to be conducted tomorrow.
When The Sangai Express contacted the SP of Kohima, K Martin, today evening, the police officer said that the deceased woman appears to be between 35 and 40 years of age.
The SP added that the body was recovered from a nullah near the Kohima by pass gate.
The body was retrieved by the Kohima North police, added the SP.
The body was found today at about 11 am from the nullah, said the police officer and added that the woman was attired in a blue coloured phanek, a white coloured sweater, a necklace etc.
To a question on the possible cause of the death, the SP said that the woman might have been strangulated to death.
The police still do have any clue over the identity of the woman, said the SP but maintained that she looks like a Manipuri or a Cachari.
The police officer however did not specify whether the woman bore the features of Nagas from Manipur or Kukis or Meitei.
The phanek worn by the woman is generally used only in Manipur, he further observed.
Post mortem will be conducted tomorrow to verify the cause of the death.
To a question on whether the woman was raped before being done to death, the SP said that it is still too early to say adding that the post mortem will throw some light on the nature of the death.
Information has already been relayed to the Manipuris settled in Kohima to come and see the body which is presently kept at the Kohima North police station.
