Cracking the whip against impostors, KYKL today said that it has eliminated two impostors during the current month for using the name of the outfit to extort from the public.
In a statement KYKL said that one May 12 an impostor, Maibam Pheijao (22) of Leimapokpam Mayai Leikai was shot dead at Ningthikhongban in Thoubal district.
Pheijao was caught while he was trying to extort Rs 1 lakh from a family at Lilong Haoreibi.
Pheijao was the leader of a 7 member gang, said KYKL and added that the second in command Heisnam Kiran- kumar alias Naoba of Samurou Lai Manak was also hauled up by the KYKL on May 9 but had to be set free as they came across a frisking party of the Indian army.
On May 25, KYKL awarded the death punishment to Thokchom Abung (22) of Sanakeithel, said the statement.
Abung was part of a gang led by Ngangom Tingku of Uripok Tourangbam Leikai.
Abung was caught while trying to extort Rs 3 lakhs from a shop at Thangal bazar, said the outfit adding that his companion, L Bidur alias Anand alias Amu (22) of uripok Sorbon Thingel has fallen into the hands of the police.
Bidur worked as a reporter of a newspaper.
The outfit further said that Abung and bidur were part of a gang member including a woman and they had extorted about Rs 4 to 5 lakhs using the name of KYKL.
The identities and addresses of all the gang members are known to the outfit, said the KYKL adding that anyone found misusing the name of the outfit for their personal aggrandisement would not be spared.
A number of youngsters who were misled by the gang leaders have been chastised and handed over to family members.
Appealing to all to be aware of impostors, KYKL asked the people not to entertain any demands without the documents from the Finance department of the outfit.
