Imphal, March 20: Many NGOs in the state are functioning only for monetary benefits.

Huge amounts of money are taken from people promising lucrative jobs in the NGOs the Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) today said.

In education and other related matters many NGOs are taking grants from the centre.

DESAM has started investigating into the matter.

Those working in the Social Awareness and Educational Organization (SAEDO), Kwakeithel Akham Leikai have complained over the functioning style of the MD/Secretary.

The organization is fooling the people.

The NGO issued advertisements for SC and ST for undergoing training in various vocations like embroidery, knitting, tailoring, type writing, and computer.

Money was taken from the Ministry of HRD, Social Justice and Empowerment and Labour.

Even before grant was obtained Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 were taken by promising jobs.

Pay was not however given.

Even after money was received the staffs were not given anything.

All money were used for personal purposes.

Even when the staff members said they want to resign nothing materialized.

Fund was taken by giving false reports it charged.

Help from Delhi based politicians are taken.

The entire organization is run by Kh Radhakishwor.

To provide free residential education to ST/SC students� appointments were made.

Deposits were taken from the appointed teachers.

There is neither hostel nor school building.

He utilized the teachers for his personal private school but never paid the teachers.

In Oct 2001 and Jan 2002 he issued advertisements and from the employees he collected Rs 5 lakhs as deposit.

Salary is supposed to be between Rs 1500 to Rs 4000.Nothing was given.

The due salary is Rs 7 lakhs.

DESAM urged the NGO to do things in a proper manner.

The MD/Secretary skirted the issue whenever DESAM made appeal to him regarding the matter.

The DESAM executive body discussed the matter yesterday according to the Dy Secy Education and Academic Affairs LC Santosh.

It was decided to take up appropriate action required to be done as per law and to make the public decide on the issue.

From now onwards the DESAM will not listen to the complaints on the issue.

The NGO under a different scheme, Mahila Samalaya (Education for women equality), Ministry of Human Resource development, Department of Elementary Education and Literacy is trying get some fund.

The people should be aware of any move to appoint people in the name of the same scheme it added.

It urged all NGOs to work honestly in the interest of the people.

It also asked the government to look into the functioning of the NGO.

The NGOs are trying to get money without doing anything.
