Dr Hmar Tlawmte Sangliana who was born in Mizoram, brought up in Manipur and served as Director General of Police in Karnataka has been elected as a Member of parliament from Bangalore North Constituency on a BJP ticket.
He defeated his nearest rival and former Railway Minister CK Jaffer Sharief of the Indian national Congress by a margin of 3275 votes in the eight cornered contest for the 14th Lok Sabha.
Sangliana, who shifted to Manipur from the Mizoram State capital Aizawl in 1956 studied from class VI to VIII at Bengali High School, Imphal and completed matriculation from Sielmat High School, CCpur.
After continuation of higher studies at Shillong Sangliana joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1967 in the Karnataka cadre.
He was posted at Imphal on deputation for about a decade till the mid 90s as Divisional organizer of SSB/VVF (Manipur-Nagaland) before being transferred as Police Commissioner of Bangalore.
He assumed charge as Karnataka DGP last year with his popularity chart rapidly climbing for active involvement in attempting to arrest forest brigand Veerapan.
