Mizoram to have own medical research centre as well

Besides the Medical College, Medical Research Centre will also be set up at the premises of State Referral Hospital at Falkawn in Mizoram.
Mizoram Health Minister Lal Thanzara said this today while visiting the State Referral Hospital and District TB Centre at Falkawn.
He inspected over the functioning of the Hospital and the major need of the Hospital at present.
Parliamentary Secretary K.S.Thanga, Health Department Principal Director Dr.K.Ropari, Dr.Lalbiakkima, Director, Health & Medical Education and Aizawl Civil Hospital Medical Superintendant Dr.Rosangluaia were with the Health Minister during his inspection.
The Minister and the officials with him were apprised of the immediate needs of the hospital by Dr.Jane R.Ralte, Deputy Medical Superintendant and 5 Medical officers of the State referral Hospital.
They also visited round the different wards, Operation theatre, Store Rooms, Kitchen, Dumping Ground, Special Ward for critical TB Patients and Staff quarters of the Referral Hospital.
Staffs of the Referral Hospital asked the Minister in writing on their immediate needs out of the many requirements, which included": proper fencing of Gate and Compound; posting of Full time Specialists and Medical Officers in Medicine, paediatric, anaesthesia, orthopaedics and Ayush; Standardization of Maternity Ward; Additional Eye Specialists, Nursing staffs, Pharmacists; Standardization of surgical equipments; provision for computer internet facility, ambulance, and for transportation facility for Staffs and visiting patients.
The Hospital Staffs also apprised the Minister that food and lodging of visitors and caretakers of patients is the main problem faced by the referral hospital.
Speaking in a short programme held at Doctors' Seminar room, the Health Minisister said that Rs 5 crore allotted for standardization of Aizawl Civil Hospital can be utilized now.
From the allotted fund, major needs of the State Referral may be fulfilled, he said.
Saying that besides the proposed Medical College at the premises of Referral Hospital, Health Minister added that Medical Research Centre shall also be constructed at the cost of more than Rs.400 lakhs.
As regards food and lodging for visitors of the patients, steps are being taken with the hospital authority concerned, the Minister said.
In the mean time, the Minister suggested for the people of Falkawn village where the State Referral Hospital locates, that it would be a good source of income for them if they can construct low-cost lodge for accommodation of visitors of the patients.
When Medical College came to be set up, there will be plenty of works to be done by the locals and that it will open up a wide way for economic progress and financial income for Falkawn village, the Minister added.
Parliamentary Secretary K.S.Thanga, also the constituency MLA, also that the State Referral Hospital, the District TB Hospital and the Medical College, when set up- all will be a great progress for the Mizoram.
He advised the locals to be open-minded, hospitable, and friendly to medical students from other community.
Parliamentary Secretary added that if State Referral Hospital is standardized soon, the problems at the civil hospital including the need to wait for more than 2 months for surgery shall be done away with.
Principal Director Dr.K.Lalropari also called on the local people and their leaders to help maintain cleanliness in the premises of the hospital.
She also said that the transfer of TB Hospital in the premises is not harmful, adding, TB disease is not dangerous for others if the patients takes proper medication.
Health Director Dr.Lalbiakkima also told the local people that dumping ground is not harmful either.
He said that the same is Euro- II certified and that the smoke is also not harmful.
Dr.Lalbiakkima mentioned that plan is on to give admission to 100 students for the first batch of the proposed Medical College, for which the government is vigorously taking steps, he said.
