Imphal, January 06 2010:
Around 2000 people of Karang have been facing lots of inconvenience since past three months as water ways that lead to the islet at Loktak Lake are blocked by kang-phumdis (floating biomasses).
A press release issued by Manipur People's Party (Political Affairs and Local Bodies) General Secretary H Manisana said that Karang villagers earn their livelihood by selling fish at nearby Moirang and Ningthoukhong markets.
Saying that villagers of Karang can reach the mainland only by canoes or motorboats the press release said that the villagers are facing lots of inconvenience as the islet is now surrounded by thick biomasses.
Maintaining that apart from the locals of Karang, villagers of nearby Thanga Heisnam, Chingkha, Samukol, Ngaram and Ithing localities are also largely bothered by these biomasses, MPP urged upon the State Government to take up necessary action sensing the problems being faced the villagers.
