Imphal, January 06 2010: First MLA of Chandel district, Ngoru Mono Monsang passed away at around 9:30 am today.

He died on his way to hospital due his personal illness.

He was 96.Elected to the State Constituent Assembly in 1948, Ngoru Mono maintained good rapport with Sekmai Chaoba, Moirang Koireng and Allimuddin.

He was also a close aide of Hijam Irabot.

Ngoru Mono hold different positions including secretary of Tribal Customs Inquiry Committee, member of District Committee of erstwhile Tengnoupal district, president of Chandel District Congress Committee and King of Liwaching village.

He was also instrumental in establishing Liwaching High School.

Being an active member of Indian National Congress, he took up various activities with Indira Gandhi for the development of hill areas.

He is survived by his wife, four sons and one daughter.
