Imphal, January 29 2009: TWO TEACHERS of the Ram Lal Paul were also picked up by the police today in the follow up action to the arrest of five principals of the government higher secondary schools and taken into custody till January 30. Meanwhile, students of the government higher secondary served deadline on February 2 next for un-conditional release of the teachers with a threatened to launch agitations of boycotting classes and submission of their text books to the government authorities.

The picked up teachers namely science graduate teacher Chingsubam Debendra of Thangmeiband Kabram Leikai and physical education teacher Thokchom Tomba of Chingamakha ningthoujam Leikai.

They were picked up by the police this morning from their respective homes and produced before the chief judicial magistrate, Imphal and remanded to police custody till tomorrow.

Imphal police registered a FIR case against them under section 124-A, 341, 506, 120-B and UA (P) act 2004 of section 18/32(2) of the IPC of the Imphal police station.

Case taken up against the two teachers was related with the same report of the additional secretary of the education (s) M Harekrishna to the police which stated that the teachers and principals insisted students of their respective schools not to participate in the Republic Day celebration this year.

They were also charge of intimidating the students that if untoward incidents occurred to them for defying the boycott called by the undergrounds, they will not bear any responsible and any of them participate in the celebration without obeying their orders, they will be compelled to make fail in the forthcoming exam.

In the meantime, a spokesperson of the state government today informed Hueiyen Lanpao that even though the teachers were suspended from their service, government has decided not to detain them under NSA.

On the other hand, a body of students of six government higher secondary schools, All Manipur Joint, Government Higher Secondary School Students' Union in a statement said today.

The statement said that the teachers had submitted their representation informing that they will not attend the R-Day celebration under unavoidable circumstance to the education (s) director.

If the same intimidation was happened to pose to the chief minister, he will also do the same, it added.

The chief minister was well protected by security forces, he did not received it but his security escort has been increasing for every instant of receive threats, the statement said.

The statement signed by its president Th Premchand also said that the clear example of the same is that of blocking the road passing near the CM Bungalow and protected round the clock by the security men.

Teachers have no security and they have done it unable to bear the pressure mounted on them.

It should be understood by the government, it added.

The joint body of the students was formed in a meeting of the representatives of students union of the Johnstone Higher Secondary School, Model Higher Secondary School, CC Higher Secondary School, Ram Lal Paul higher Secondary School, TG Higher Secondary School and Ibotonsana Higher Secondary School.

The meeting also appealed the state government to withdraw cases registered against the six principals and teachers and release them at the earliest.

If the state government fails to take positive action to their demand, they will launch several forms of agitations which will make headache to the government, the statement said as resolved in the meeting.

The joint body also asked why government is turning toward the teachers while they could not solved the insurgency problem of the state.

It also insists the government not to compel the students to agitate while the Standard X, XI and XII examinations are knocking at the door.

Separate statements of the students union of the six higher secondary schools also while strongly condemning the detention of the principals and teachers demanded immediate un-conditional release of them at the earliest.
