Imphal, August 28:
Setting September as the deadline for the Government for taking up necessary measures to improve the condition of National Highway 53 and provide security along the said route, Imphal-Silchar Road Transporters' Welfare Society has threatened to launch a cease work strike among other intense agitations if the Government fails to do so.
Announcing this during a press conference at Manipur Press Club here this afternoon, Society president RK Bikram said after the MSRTC failed to operate and serve the people, the Society has been rednering a yeomen service in facilitating transportation between Imphal and Jiribam.
But there has been no improvement in the condition of the road or in the law and order situation.
It is just the same as what it was 20 years before, he lamented.
The Society also condemned the incident of damaging five vehicles by suspected bandh supporters in Sadar Hills area yesterday.
