Some sitting MLAs belonging to other political parties are likely to join the Congress ahead of the Assembly elections.
This was disclosed by the MPCC (I) president Gaikhangam while talking to some reporters today.
For the forthcoming Assembly elections, MPCC is currently undertaking an organisational exercise, he said while expressing confidence that Congress (I) would secure absolute majority in the upcoming elections.
Disclosing that about 10 erstwhile Congress MLAs including senior politicians who have joined other political outfits have conveyed their desire to come back to Congress, Gaikhangam informed that the matter has not been discussed till date as the time is still immature for such activities.
Mentioning that Congress (I) chief Sonia Gandhi is also aware of this development, he hinted that some sitting MLAs might contest in the forthcoming elections as Congress (I) candidates.
According to the wish of people, AICC (I) has modified many of its age-old functional patterns and as such the party under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi is winning confidence of more and more people across the country.
In Manipur too, with the inclusion of many new faces and young blood, the party has become the most trusted one of the vast majority of people, claimed Gaikhangam.
He attributed the stability of the SPF Government and numerous developmental schemes launched during its tenure to the unflinching faith of the people in the Congress party.
As for MPCC (I), all preparations have been made to contest the forthcoming election successfully, revealed the MPCC(I) president while adding that it is working to prepare and produce its election manifesto.
A reliable source informed that the Congress Co-ordination Committee would convene a meeting on July 31 the main of which would the assembly elections.
To a question, Gaikhangam noted that the Congress party has been facing disturbances from numerous UG groups in both the hills and valley during time.
He said that MPCC (I) has become accustomed to such disturbances.
Despite such disturbances, Congress party has all the reasons to expect absolute majority in the assembly elections, confided Gaikhangam adding that the party is working hard to ensure success for greater number of Congress candidates in hill districts too.
