Imphal, January 28 2010:
The worst part of National Highway-39 is the Maram Centre to Maram Bazar stretch.
The government turns a deaf ear to the repeated pleas for renovation of the road.
It is sad to note that there is still no visible step taken on the part of the government to repair the road, lamented, A Pfozkrehrii Khrasi, president of Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA).
A Pfozkrehrii Khrasi said, it has been long that the Senapati-Mao stretch of NH-39 remains neglected by the government despite many meeting held between the students' association and the government.
The students' body has made repeated pleas to the government for renovation of the stretch.
Following the demand for the renovation of road by the students' body, the government has time and again assured that the road will be repaired.
The SDSA has also resorted to imposition of economic blockades against the government's apathy.
The students' body had imposed economic blockade on NH-39 in December last.
The agitation was withdrawn following an agreement with the government.
He said, the agitation launched by the SDSA is a state issue.
Stating that the issue is not a new issue, he asserted that the SDSA would not compromise on the issue.
AP Khrase added that the students' body is very much aware about the inconvenience caused to the public of the state in launching agitation along the road.
But bandh/blockades have been launched for the good of the state and its entire populace.
Khrase pointed out that fund has been sanctioned for the renovation of the NH-39 though the road remains unrepaired.
The bad road condition has also posed health hazard for the users.
He stated that the total length of the National Highway in the state is only 959 kilometres.
The total length of the highway under the state Public Works department is only 274 km while the rests is under the Border Road Organisation (BRO).
