8 KCP-MC activists apprehended

Imphal, December 26 2009: Eight activists of the proscribed KCP-MC (Lamyanba Khuman) involved in several cases of bomb attacks, extortion and other anti-social activities in different areas of Bishnupur district have been apprehended by a combined security team.

The arrested activists include four women.

Speaking to media persons at Bishnupur police Hqs today, Bishnupur SP Konsam Jayanta said that the eight KCP-MC activists were apprehended in a counter insurgency operation launched jointly by Bishnupur police commandos, Army and Assam Rifles since December 24 .

In the course of the operation, four cadres of Lamyanba Khuman group including three women were apprehended by a combined team of Bishnupur commandos and troops of 4/8 GR from Ningthoukhong Keithel at about 8.30 pm of December 24 .

They have been identified as Joel LD Laino (22) s/o Senpu LD Laino of Nungshai Chiru, Lina alias Nanao Laishram (31) w/o Suman of Ningthoukhong Ward No 4, Bindiya alias Abem Irengbam (20) w/o late NC Lalchandra of the same locality and Phairembam ningol Ahanthem ongbi Sakhi (50) w/o Megha of Moirang Phiwangbam Leikai.

Joel LD Laino was a cadre of NSCN-IM before joining KCP-MC (Lamyanba Khuman group).

In another search conducted jointly by Bishnupur police commandos and troops of 33 AR in Moirang area, four cadres of the same outfit including one woman were pulled up at about 8.30 am today.

SP Jayanta identified the cadres as Pukhrambam Bobo alias Babu (40) s/o late Angou of Moirang Khoiru Leikai, Angom Naocha (21) s/o Ibomcha (Bocha) of the same locality, Konjengbam Manoranjan alias Poireiton (22) s/o Basanta of Moirang Konjengbam Maning Leikai and Keisam Abem alias Ichanthoibi alias Thoi (23) d/o Kumar of Khudekpi Makha Leikai.

Two Chinese hand grenades were recovered from Abem alias Thoi.

All the eight cadres were involved in hurling grenades at the saw mill of one Ngangom Basanta at Utlou Chanura Keithel on November 27, at the residence of one Tongbram Rajen at Utlou Makha Leikai on November 30 and at the residence of one S Chandramani at Oinam Awang Leikai at about December 2, the SP said.

They were also involved in threatening one Moirangthem Premjit by hurling grenade at his residential gate near Moirang College yesterday.

With the arrest of the eight cadres, their plans to threaten other individuals have been aborted.

Some of the arrested women cadres are experts in lobbing grenades besides engaging themselves in transporting grenades.

Saying that subversive activities planned by the outfit in Bishnupur district have been intercepted, SP Jayanta exhorted that the cadres may leave Bishnupur district or return to the mainstream.
