Imphal, May 26:
All political parties who are fielding their respective candidates in the Khundrakpam A/C by-poll including the SPF coalition partners Congress and CPI have intensified electioneering activities.
Speaking at a political meeting of CPI candidate L Premchandra at Sawombung gate today, Agriculture Minister Ph Parijat remarked that no Congress candidate could get elected from Khundrakpam A/C because they do not like the party.
Noting that all candidates who are contesting the by-poll after defecting from one party and joining another are self-seeking individuals, Parijat asserted that a stable Government can be installed in the State only when people elect candidates with firm political conviction.
In line with the UPA Government at the Centre, the CPI has been extending support to the coalition Government at the State in the interest of the people, he said.
Clarifying that CPI is not in the SPF Ministry for the sake of Ministerial berths, Parijat claimed that the party does not fear expulsion from the Ministry.
He also called upon the people to analyse the logic behind many candidates of the 9th Assembly elections extending support to Premchandra in the ensuing by-election instead of contesting themselves.
MLA N Mangi asked the people whether it would be justified to elect a candidate whose name is listed in two different constituencies as against the Constitution of the country.
When the photo of a clock used as symbol by late Navakumar is still fresh, how can Lokeshore fight the by-poll under INC symbol of palm, he asked.
The alleged deviation by O Ibobi from the standard norms of coalition partnership and campaigning with narrow political consideration for his party's candidate is nothing but manifestation of his intention to remain Chief Minister of Manipur as long as he can.
Asking the people not to be swayed by money, Mangi appealed to the people to cast their votes after a thorough study of contesting candidates.
Claiming that the previous SPF Govt was able to last its full tenure because of the unflinching support given by CPI, he said National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme was launched when CPI was exercising political leverage at the Centre.
Speaking on the occasion CPI candidate Premchandra conveyed gratitude to the people while pledging that he will always dedicate himself for the welfare of people.
