Moreh, August 24:
Strongly protesting the alleged assault of an innocent youth by five 7 Manipur Rifles personnel on August 22 night, the Hill Tribal Council, KSO, Moreh and Kuki Women's Union and Human Rights have imposed a bandh at the border town from midnight of today till midnight of Sunday.
An indefinite bandh along the Imphal-Moreh route has also been imposed.
Condemning the assault, the three bodies in a statement said that a 22 year old youth Jamkhoson Touthang of Canan Veng, Moreh ward number 7 was severely assaulted by the MR men while he was returning home along with his sister after visiting an ailing aunt on August 22 evening.
The MR men in civil dress intercepted them at Chingdong Leikai-Canan Veng junction and without any formal inquiry shouted at them and started thrashing Jamkhoson, said the statement.
The pleading of the sister to stop the assault was brushed aside by the security personnel, said the statement and added that after receiving numerous blows from the MR men (they used their gun buts), the victim collapsed unconscious.
The victim was then rushed to the hospital, said the three organisations and added that the unruly behaviour of the MR men in assaulting an innocent civilian is highly condemnable.
The three bodies have demanded the suspension of the five MR men, shifting of MR post from Canan Veng, settlement of the case through Kuki customary laws.
Till the demands are met the indefinite bandh on Moreh-Imphal line will remain in force and in case no positive response is received then the agitation will be intensified from Monday, warned the three organisations.
During the bandh at Moreh, all have been asked not to venture outside, shops should down shutters, hotels should remain closed and all vehicles should stay off the road, cautioned the three organisations further.
