Imphal, Jul 24: Two cadres of KNF (P) and one Assam Rifles personnel were killed in a gun battle at around 7.30 pm yesterday near Kanglatongbi temple 3 kms North of Sekmai police station.

According to information received from police, even though the encounter took place near Kanglatongbi temple, the corpses of the KNF (P) cadres were recovered from Chalbung village, 7 kms South of Sapermeina police station.

The two slain UG cadres found today morning are identified as Mangkholen Khongsai (19) son of Paokholun Khongsai of Lhangjol village under Sapermeina police station and Chonlet Kipgen (22) son of Kamkhohao Kipgen of Shongtun village under Kangpokpi police station.

As the corpses were recovered from Chalbung, Sapermeina police have registered a case in this connection.

The bodies of the two militants have been handed over to family members after post morterm at Kangpokpi PHC.

The 14 AR man killed in the shoot-out is identified as rifleman (no 5000581) Rudevoyi Swuro (23), a native of Nagaland.

A PIB (DW) release informed that the encounter followed when a patrol party of 14 AR challenged some persons approaching them.

The militants then started firing indiscriminately towards the AR team to which they retaliated.

Soon after the militants fled from the scene, it said.

A case has also been registered at Sekmai police station and the deceased was handed over to AR authority after post morterm at RIMS.
