The mass cycle rally being organised by AMADA in connection with the observance of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking and which was flagged off from Kangla on June 21 by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh reached Churachandpur at around 7 pm yesterday.
As the cyclists entered Churachandpur, a large number of people belonging to various communities attired in their traditional dresses came out to welcome them.
Afterwards, hundreds of womenfolk with torches in their hands led the cyclists to the place of halt for the night.
After spending the night there, the cyclists hit the road again at around 7 am today.
The flagged off ceremony was attended by Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur AK Sinha as chief guest, AMADA president L Tomba Meetei as president and host of other luminaries like vice president of Kuki Inpi Kaipao Haokip, president of Meetei Society Yaipha Yumnam, president of Hmar Inpui HK Joute and president of Paite Tribe Council T Singneng as guests of honour.
On the return journey today, the cycle rally passed through Phoubakchao, Ekhai, Saiton, Kumbi and Wangoo Lamkhai and arrived at Kakching Bazar where a street play was enacted by AMADA activists highlighting the problem of drug abuse and its prevention.
From Kakching Bazar, the cyclists proceeded to Pallel where they would halt the night there today.
