Imphal, February 22: Manipur People�s Party (MPP) candidates who had contested the recently conducted first and second phase polling in 48 Assembly Constituencies for the 9th State Legislative Assembly have exuded confidence of emerging successful in the hustings.

Predicting victory for the MPP, party leaders and candidates today confided that a high power committee or a core committee would be constituted to chalk out plan for formation of an MPP-led Government in which the Congress will not be an ally under any conditions.

The MPP speculations were conveyed during a congregation (get-together) of party nominees at its office premise this afternoon in which a large number of political workers, election agents and sympathisers also participated.

According to its president Dr L Chandramani, who contested from Patsoi AC, MPP would emerge as the single largest party when election results are declared and hectic discussion has started to strike alliances with like-minded political parties exception the Congress.

Even though the seasoned politician stopped short of detailing which political parties can be possible allies in an MPP-led Govt, Dr Chandramani affirmed that the nitty gritty of a coalition Government is being worked out.

Observing that the current election is not only different from the previous polls but is also more challenging, he said taking into account general sentiment and aspiration of the people MPP fought the polls on people-based issues.

The MPP leader also expressed gratitude to the masses for their support and faith reposed upon MPP principles.

pointing to reports of SPF Government and its Ministers involved in corrupt practice that could be aptly summed up by the general public�s concept of the Congress-led regime being �percentage� coalition, the former Deputy Chief Minister called upon the electorate to exercise their franchise rights with caution in the third and final phase tomorrow.

Speaking on the occasion former lok sabha MP and MPP nominee in Nambol AC, Th Chaoba opined that with the general public well aware of SPF Government�s reputation of being corrupt in addition to letting down the people on the law and order front the electorates reposing their faith on MPP for a new dawn could not be disputed.

Calling upon his colleagues and MPP leaders to emphasis on a corruption-free Govt and pledging to improve the law and order situation in the State, Chaoba also asserted that in case MPP is elected to power the recent report of some SPF legislators� involvement in extracting percentage from PHED work programmes would be investigated.

Endorsing proposals for constitution of the high-powered committee, former Chief Minister and MPP nominee in Yaiskul AC, RK Dorendra exuded that prevailing circumstances and political development clearly indicates that people have opted for a non-congress Government.

While suggesting that the proposed committee also frame a definite common minimum programme in case a coalition Government is formed, Dorendra also contended that State unit of the Congress organisation had already earmarked over Rs 100 crores to woo elected representatives belonging to marginal political outfits and successful independents.

He also alleged that the Congress party is intensely trying to garner support of UNC candidates despite the fact that the UNC is being supported by the NSCN (IM) which he termed as an armed outfit relentlessly trying to dismember manipur.
