Acting on a specific information, a team of AMADA volunteers seized two bags of Raja khaini, five bags of Talab/Gutkha and three cartons of Zarda from a mini-Tata (MN 01-6700) belonging to the Post Office, Imphal at Koirengei today.
The tobacco items brought from Kangpokpi to Imphal in the Post Office vehicle were meant for distribution to different districts other than Imphal through two non-locals� Manoj and Dinesh, currently staying at Masjid Road, Imphal.
The driver Maibam Nabachandra (18) of Samurou Bazar was paid Rs 1000 for transporting the tobacco items.
The main accused of the illicit trade Nandajit Shah of Buxar district, Bihar, staying at present at Masjid Road who came to Imphal from Kangpokpi in the Post Office vehicle, Post Master of Kangpokpi Post Office Md Abdul Kalam of Minuthong Golapati, peon in Imphal Post Office Salam Upen of Palace Compound have been pulled up by AMADA.
Accused for transporting tobacco items on two occasions, another Post Office driver Heramot has also been warned to give into AMADA at the earliest.
Further AMADA appealed to the State Government to take up befitting actions against all those officials involved in transporting the tobacco products worth Rs 11,0750.While the seized tobacco products were consigned to flames at Bokul Makhong, Singjamei Liwa Road tonight, the vehicle would be handed over to the Department concerned, said an AMADA functionary.
