Imphal, May 17:
A large crowd of protestors demanding a Judicial Inquiry into the suspicious death of Premila at RIMS marched towards the Assembly complex and RIMS today.
However they were stopped near the CHC Nambol by police.
The large crowd assembled at Leimaram Kangjeibung under the aegis of the JAC before they headed towards Imphal in seven buses.
However their attempt to storm the Assembly session was foiled by the police.
After a brief altercation with police, the crowd staged a sit in protest blocking half of the road.
According to the JAC convenor, Ningthoujam Dinesh, RIMS Director Prof Fimate gave them a written assurance to produce post mortem report and Departmental enquiry report by May 5.However, the Director has refused to furnish the report till date.
Moreover, many demands of the JAC have not been implemented as yet, he said.
Later in the evening, a seven member team of the JAC met the RIMS Director in his office.
During the meeting, Prof Fimate informed that the reports have been submitted to the Chief Minister on May 7 through the Health Commissioner.
Enraged at the late disclosure of the RIMS Director, the JAC team demanded that RIMS apologise to the people for the hardships
endured by the people at Nambol today and for the suspicious death of Premila in RIMS.
According to the JAC co-convenor Oinam Juge, the protest movement of the JAC is not based on its demand for Judicial Enquiry and ex-gratia alone.
The movement may be suspended if the RIMS authority come forward to apologise for the controversial death and give assurance that such incidents will not be allowed to recur in RIMS, he said.
Even if attempt of the JAC was foiled today, the JAC would be launching more severe modes of agitation with the help of people, stated Judge.
