Imphal, August 16:
The MPP has urged the Governor, Chief Minister and Speaker to convene a special Assembly session to deliberate on the memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister on July 18 by MP Mani Charenamei and six MLAs which demanded disintegration of Manipur to pave way for integration of Naga inhabited areas including some parts of Myanmar.
A team of MPP representatives led by its president Dr L Chandramani called on Governor Dr SS Sidhu today and urged him to convene a special session of the Assembly to discuss the matter which is paramount to the interest of the State.
The team then called on the Chief Minister and the Speaker separately urging for a House session.
The MPP team included working president Udoy Thongam, former Union Minister Th Chaoba, Legislature party leader O Joy, Dr Ng Bijoy, Dr I Ibohanbi and RK Anand.
Besides MP Mani Charenamei, the six MLAs who signed the memorandum for integration of Naga inhabited areas were Morung Makunga, Dr Khasim Ruivah, Awangbou Newmai, Danny Shaiza, Wungnaoshang Keishing and K Raina.
Briefing media persons later today at MPP office, Dr L Chandramani remarked that the demand for integration of Naga dominated areas at the cost of the State's integrity is against the collective interest of the people of Manipur.
The necessity to discuss the validity and rationality of the memorandum on the floor of the House arises as it contains several points detrimental to the integrity of Manipur, he asserted.
The appeal to the Prime Minister to create Nagalim by dismembering Manipur and some parts of Myanmar dominated by Nagas and the representation that they (the MP and the six MLAs) stand for integration of Naga inhabited areas is against the collective wish of the people of Manipur, asserted Dr Chandramani.
He said that the elected representatives should not act in contravention of the Constitution to disturb the territorial integrity and unity of Manipur and India.
The MPP president stated the party will always stand firm for territorial integrity and unity of Manipur.
Th Chaoba conveyed that the Chief Minister assured the team that an all party meeting will be convened at 9 am of August 17 followed by a Cabinet meeting on the next day to discuss the matter concerning the proposed special Assembly session.
As several points of the memorandum call for thorough deliberations at the highest level, MPP will not remain silent if the Government refuses to convene the Assembly session, said O Joy.
Stating that the guiding principle of MPP's constitution is safeguard the thousand years old territorial boundary and integrity of Manipur, Joy asked whether those legislators who are scheming to disintegrate Manipur even as they are under the payroll of the State Government deserve seats in the State Assembly.
If the State Government fails to convene Assembly session and the legislators fail to discuss the points of the memorandum in minute details, future generations and the history will never excuse the sitting legislators, Joy said.
Advocating for Naga integration at the cost of disintegration of Manipur by the MP and the six MLAs has belittled the Indian Constitution under which they took the oath of office and secrecy, noted RK Anand and Ng Bijoy.
The two MPP MLAs also maintained that the matter demands serious deliberation.
Dr I Ibohanbi asserted that the State should stand firm against any challenge to the integrity of the State.
