In unrelated incidents in the past 24 hours, two persons have been killed in mishaps that occurred at Sadar Hills and Imphal West district, a body recovered from a Ghurachandpur district area while fire gutted three shops in Jiribam.
One Loitongbam Jojo (24) s/o Lokendro of Lalambung succumbed to grievous wounds suffered after a Tata truck (MN01/6065) he was travelling at rolled into a gorge of about 130 feet deep.
The mishap which occurred in between Seijang and Tupul in Sapermeina sub-division at around 9 am today also wounded the driver and the owner respectively identified as Sanjit (24) of Jiribam and Koijam James (26) s/o K Kora of Lalambung.
Personnel of CRPF's 124 Bn stationed at Seijang evacuated the injured to RIMS Hospital from where Sanjit has been referred to Shija Hospital as his conditions is stated to be serious.
Body of the deceased, however, was not brought to RIMS mortuary when this report filed.
The other mishap occurred at Sagolband yesterday afternoon wherein a teenager identified as Kangabam Dingku (16) s/o K Inao of Uripok Khoisnam Leikai drowned at Sayang Pukhri.
At Jiribam sub-division, three shops have been destroyed when a fire broke out at around 10 am today.
Preliminary report suggest that the inferno might have consumed about Rs 80,000 worth of goods.
The shops are run/owned by Bengali immigrants, said police source.
Meanwhile, bodies of two suspected UG activists slain in an encounter with personnel of 18 Assam Rifles on august 13 at near Leibi village under Tengnoupal police station have been deposited' at RIMS morgue today for identification.
Post mortem on the bodies were conducted at Lilong PHC.
Found dead: A male body with bullet wound on the head was recovered in a highly decomposed state yesterday morning from near Tuikham Thong, about 3 kilometres south-east of Churachandpur police station.
Identity of the deceased has been established as Paominlen alias Roland Kom (32) of Kharam Thadou village near Singda Dam.
The body has been handed over to family members after post mortem at the district hospital today.
