Tension is running high in Senapati between Paomeis and Marams over a land row.
Police have been deployed in the area to prevent any group from taking possession of the disputed land.
Moreover, the district administration has also imposed restrictions in the area under section 144 of CrPC.
According to information received from police, there has been a long standing dispute between Marams and Paomeis over land boundaries at Katomei along side NH 39.When a group of Maram people came to the area to till the land there for cultivation, they were confronted by another group belonging to Paomei community yesterday.
The two groups had heated altercations over the land issue.
About 200 strong well armed Maram group were confronted by equally well equipped Paomeis when the former intruded into the disputed land.
The tense situation, which could have resulted in large scale casualty, was effectively put under control by timely police intervention.
On receiving information of the stand-off, SP Senapati immediately rushed to the site along with a platoon of IRB personnel and some AR troops and the mob was put under control before they came to blows.
Following the outbreak of the row at about 11 am yesterday, both the parties continued their arguments and altercations till 4 pm.
With the imposition of restriction under section 144 of CrPC, both the parties have been Senapati tense over land row prohibited from entering the site.
Even as police have been guarding the site, tension is still running high between the two groups.
