Moreh, June 12: Even as representatives of a large number of civil society organisations arrived at the border town today to defuse the situation, fierce gun fights ensued between suspected miltant groups and IRB personnel.

Significantly the shoot out occurred even as the Ministerial team is still camping at Moreh to defuse the situation.

The shoot out occurred near the power sub station at Moreh ward Number 9 today at about 5.25 pm when the unidentified militants attacked the post.

Following the attack on the post, the IRB men closed down the post but it was re-opened after reinforcement arrived and the militants were driven back.

However the militants attacked the post again with renewed vigour backed by solid reinforcements and the IRB personnel had to shift base.

No one was however hurt in the shoot out.

Extremely disappointed with the new development, the IRB personnel threatened to lay down arms before the DGP who is currently camping at Moreh.

The grievances of the IRB men range from the meagre amount of ammos supplied to them, the non-authorisation to open fire as and when needed, etc.

On the other hand to ease the suffering of the people in the border town following a series of violent incidents since June 9, many civil organisations descended at Moreh today even as the bodies of five persons which have been lying at Moreh Police Station have been handed over to their respective family members.

In an effort to restore normalcy in the strife-torn border town, the Ministers and the MLAs who have been camping here since yesterday continue to hold meetings with leaders of various communities.

Representatives of civil organisations who arrived at Moreh to help the people include UCM, UPF, AMUCO, AMESCO, AMSU, KSO, KCA, MAFYF, IPSA, CLK, etc.

Soon after their arrival, the representatives of these organisations went around to meet the people of Moreh and understand their problems.

Meanwhile, all the persons who were reportedly missing from Moreh have been found safe and sound.

Arunkumar and Nayar who were staying in room no.101 of Nilraj, RK Naobi and Driver Ranjit have been found.

Police have also taken into custody the five persons from Dalpati namely Tampha, Sushila, Santi, Sonia and Premila who were given protection and shelter by the elder sister of Mani from Sugnu who was among the 11 persons killed in the violent incidents.

Inspite of the collective efforts being made to restore normalcy in the border town, people continue to live in fear and stay togther in groups.

The curfew imposed has also not been lifted.

Patrolling by the combined force of Assam Rifles and the State police also continue to avoid any untoward incident.
