Imphal, March 11: Claiming responsibility for executing Laikhuram Tomthinganba alias Hemanta son of L Kumar of Khurai Top Mayai Leikai on March 9, the proscribed UNLF today said that he was given the death penalty for his criminal activities.

In a statement, the outfit said that Hemanta was given the death sentence after a trial according to the rules and regulations of the MPA, the armed wing of the outfit.

The outfit said that two 9 mm pistols (local made) and one Nokia handset (AIRCEL, number 9856210927) were recovered from him.

Stating that Hemanta was a former member of the MPA (number 324), but had been staying at his home since 2001, the outfit said he started indulging in anti-people activities.

Repeated attempts to make him mend his ways failed, said the statement and added that ultimately he was expelled from the MPA.

After his expulsion, Hemanta teamed up with some former UNLF/MPA cadres and floated a new group under the name of the KCP and started extorting from the public.

The gang members also forcefully took mobile hand sets and other goods from the public, which did nothing except sully the image of the revolutionary movement, it said.

Despite repeated warnings to stop, he carried on with his nefarious dealings, said the outfit adding that it was constrained to execute him.

During interrogation it has come to light that two persons were in cahoots with Hemanta, said UNLF and named them as Thokchom Dhiren alias Thoupangpa son of Th Ibomcha of Wangoo Sandangkhong Awang Leikai and Irom Ibecha alias Thoibisana alias Meiteinganbi alias Leingakleima alias Monica alias Luxmi daughter of I Bobi of Pundongbam Makah Leikai.

Dhiren was expelled from the MPA in 2002 on disciplinary ground, said UNLF and added that he is presently settled at Kongpal Kongkham Leikai and extorting and settled at Kongpal Kongkham Leikai and carrying on extortion and terrorising the people.

Ibecha on the other hand retired from the MPA and got married and settled down at Khurai.

However later she took on the name of Leingakleima of the KCP and started extorting money from the public.

The two will be given exemplary punishment if they do not surrender to the UNLF warned the outfit.
