Kuki National Front (KNF) has claimed the responsibility for the execution of Chandrakanta Singh of Uripok (Imphal West), Hemanta Singh of Khongsang (Thoubal District), Bishworjit Singh of Khongsang (Thoubal District) and Dharmendra Meetei of Nongpok Sekmai at Kangpokpi recently.
In a statement, secretary of department of information and publicity of the outfit, LH Stephen said that all four of them were awarded capital punishment for their alleged nexus with KNO/KNA and for involvement in extortion and robbery along National Highway 39 in and around Kangpokpi area.
This was evident from the recovery of two country made 9 mm pistol along with a receipt book of the
wing no VII KNO/KNA signed by Thangjang, account officer, the statement said, while asserting that their activities maligned the name of KNF as the area is under its influence.
Apart from the weapons and the receipt book of KNO/KNA, three mobile handsets and Rs 1,400 in cash have also been confiscated from their possession, KNF claimed.
During the course of interrogation, they also revealed that they were on a mission to assassinate some important leaders of KNF for cash reward, the statement said, while charging that all four of them were also involved in trafficking drugs particularly heroin in the area.
They have been repeatedly warned but did not listen, the statement said, while explaining that they were executed not because they belong to any particular community but because of their conduct.
KNF has also warned that any person caught involved in such activities would be awarded the same punishment and urged all to shun from such involvement in future.
On the other hand, expressing resentment against the Govt for its failure to taken up necessary action, JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Four persons at Kangpokpi has warned of taking recourse to agitation along with the support of the people.
