Imphal, June 08: The proscribed RPF/PLA has shot a person on his leg and tonsured his head as punishment for allegedly raping an 18-year old girl who works as a teacher in a private school this evening.

The rapist identified as Laishram Sarat (30) s/o Nimai of Yairipok Siphai Leikai is said to be a married man having two children.

Before meting out the punishment, the rapist was paraded before mediapersons somewhere in Imphal East along with his mother identified as Ibemchoubi (56) and the raped girl.

The victim is said to be from Andro and works as a teacher in Brighter Public School.

She is the third of five sisters.

According to the accounts given by the girl, as her father was seriously suffering from liver cirrhosis and jaundice, one of her brothers-in-law and her family members decided to contact a Maiba staying at Thoubal.

Since it would be a problem for the patient to travel up and down during the treatment, arrangement for staying at the housed of L Sarat of Yairipok Siphai Leikai, who is a friend of her brother-in-law was made.

She did not accompany her father when he was taken to the house of Sarat for the first time on April 26 last, but after some days her brother-in-law suffered from dysentery and her sister also returned to her husband's house.

As there was no one to look after her ailing father, she came to the house of Sarat.

On the night of April 28, Sarat started misbehaving with her.

In order to save herself, she slept next to her sick father.

But late in the night, Sarat forcefully dragged her to the kitchen where she was brutally raped.

Even as she shouted for help, none of the family members including the wife of Sarat identified as Premabati and his mother Ibemchaobi, even if they heard, did not respond.

Afterwards, Sarat gagged her and took her to his bed to rape her again.

Sarat also admitted to his crime to the mediapersons.

Assistant chief of the communication and publicity department of the outfit, said considering the serious of the crime, capital punishment would be the befitting punishment for Sarat.

But since he surrendered to the outfit when asked to do, Sarat would be given a more lenient punishment.

He would be shot on his leg and his head tonsured.

Moreover, half of the properties belonging to Sarat should be made to be transferred in the name of the victim, the assistant chief, declared, while asking that Premabati, wife of Sarat who encourages him to commit the rape should surrender to the outfit within five days.

Ibemchoubi has also been tonsured as punsihment and handed over to the Meira Paibis.
