Imphal, June 05 2012: A jawan of the Indian Reserve Battalion mowed down three Havildars before he took his own life using his service rifle.

The incident happened inside the 6th IRB post of Maphou Dam between 2.30 pm and 3 pm today.

The IRB post was opened there at the tri-junction of Imphal East, Senapati and Ukhrul districts to guard Maphou Dam which is a component of Thoubal Multipurpose Project.

Police sources informed that Rifleman Kaikhohao Hangsing (35) of Churachandpur opened indiscriminate fire from his SLR in an inebriated condition.

All the personnel who were present there ran helter-skelter in different directions.

Later when the firing ceased, two IRB personnel were found dead while another sustained injuries.

Even as the injured personnel was rushed to RIMS, he succumbed to the injuries.

The two personnel who were killed on the spot were Havildar Thokchom Birbal (35) of Toubul Makha Leikai and Havildar Khamjathang Ngaite (54) of Vengnuam, New Lamka, Churachandpur.

The third victim who died at RIMS was Havildar Haorungbam Deben (49) of Khekman Makha Leikai, Thoubal district.

After killing the three colleagues, Kaikhohao shot himself dead.

The CO of 6th IRB has inspected the situation.

The corpses of the four IRB personnel are being kept at the morgue of JNIMS.

The IRB authority is set to enquire into the incident while police have registered an FIR case in connection with the incident, said one officer of Imphal East District Police.

Two injured in blast at Tbl : Two persons sustained injuries when unidentified miscreants exploded a hand grenade near the Gate of an NRL Oil pump located at Thoubal Haokha along Imphal-Moreh Highway this evening around 7.35 .

According to report, the hand grenade was exploded by unidentified miscreants coming on a motor cycle.

The injured victims have been identified as Thokchom Kumar (54) of Haokha Mamang and Sorensangbam Khelen (50) of Kiyam Siphai.

Kumar suffered injury at the right arm while Khelen was injured at the left thigh.

They were said to be out of danger.
