SHDDC warns State Government

Imphal, November 04 2011: Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee (SHDDC) has tactically warned that if the State Government fails to fulfill its long-delayed demand for formation of Sadar Hills district, it will decide to take up further agitation saying the economic blockade earlier imposed by the committee has not been called off yet but it has been 'temporarily withdrawn' following the assurance given by the State Government.

The SHDDC is seriously eyeing and awaiting the Government's next decision as the Committee on Re-organization of Administrative and Police District Boundaries will be submitting its report on November 25, said Tonghen Kipgen, general secretary SHDDC today.

"The committee will review its stand in case the State Government fails to implement its demand in time because the economic blockade imposed by SHDDC was suspended and it has not been yet been called off", Kipgen warned.

Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council organized a felicitation programme on the MoU signed between the State government and SHDDC on Thursday at Autonomous District Council hall, Kangpokpi, Kipgen told Newmai News Network today.

The signing of MoU has paved way for the suspension of 92-day-old indefinite economic blockade enforced by SHDDC demanding the creation of Sadar Hills district on the eve of Kut festival on November 1, wherein the government assured the agitating committee to grant its demand after the Committee on Re-organization of Administrative and Police District Boundaries submits its report.

SHDDC had said it 'generously' agreed to suspend the economic blockade considering the numerous appeals, particularly from titular king of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba and the Union Home Minister P Chidambaram.

"The people of Sadar Hills have full confidence in the MoU struck between the government and SHDDC and we are anxiously waiting for what the government has pledged to SHDDC with regard to up-gradation of Sadar Hills to a full-fledged district", Kipgen added.

In the Thursday programme, a series of activities of SHDDC and the MoU were reviewed and a resolution was also taken wherein the public of Sadar Hills vowed to support SHDDC in every step it takes in the future.

Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council chairman, Seipu, Kangpokpi Block Congress president Thangkam Misao, SHDDC president Ngamkhohao and other public leaders spoke at the programme.
