Imphal, October 01 2010: Police today rounded up at least 13 members of the Association of DPC Successful Candidates for Primary Teachers/HMT/HGT 2006 indulging in disturbing traffic movement to enforce the 24-hour general strike imposed by them demanding authentication of the result of the DPC concealed by government but which was leaked to a media house.

The statewide general strike that commenced from midnight last, however, could not affect normal life even as yet another general strike imposed jointly by Moreh based AMSU, KSO hit normal vehicle movements on the Imphal-Moreh section of the NH-39 .

Thirteen volunteers of the Association of DPC Successful Candidates for Primary Teachers/HMT/HGT 2006 were rounded up by the police when they were burning old tyres, debris etc.

to disturb traffic movement along the Indo-Burma road at various places.

They were released in the late evening, reports said.

A police report said that four strikers were rounded by Lilong police while they were burning tyres and debris on the road at Lilong area and forcing shops at Lilong Bazar to close.

Thoubal police rounded up the rest nine strikers from various places in Thoubal areas and released them at around 4.30 pm.

Disturbances to traffic movement were also reported from Lilong Chajing, Naorem Leikai, Uripok_Kangchup road.

In Ukhrul, Churachandpur, Tamenglong districts and Sadar hills area of Senapati district, strikers attempted to disturb traffic movement and close shops and business establishments.

But, they received little support from the general people, reports said.

However, president of the association while claiming good public response to their strike said that they imposed the general strike to press the government to issue offer forms for absorbing the candidates who cleared the DPC result which was published in the daily newspaper, Hueiyen Lanpao.

If the government failed to fulfill their demands, they will take the matter to a law court, he added.

On the other hand, normal traffic along the Imphal-Moreh section of the NH-39 and border trade activities at Moreh were severely hit by the general strike imposed on this section of the highway by the Moreh based students' bodies demanding appointment of a regular principal at Moreh Higher Secondary School.

The 24-hour general strike commenced from 5 am today.

Owing to the general strike, no vehicle of any kinds plied the highway fearing attack by the strikers.

However, they had given passenger vehicles in Moreh town to leave for Imphal till 7 am, a report from Moreh said.
