UNLF activists pumped bullets into the thighs of three persons at separate places as punishment for misusing the outfit's name for personal purpose/gain.
Among others charges levelled against the three persons included extortion and demanding mobile phone handsets by threatening individuals, informed a UNLF spokesperson somewhere near Bishnupur district today while asking those who had misused the outfit's name to surrender at the earliest failing which stringent punitive action would be initiated.
two of the three accused were paraded before mediapersons near Bishnupur while the third informed to be a UNLF deserter was produced at an Imphal East district location.
two of the accused produced in Bishnupur district are Ningthoujam Bidyasagar alias Bor alias Sagar (26) s/o N Ibopishak of Kakching Khunou Thongam Mondum and Salam Borchandra Singh alias Nanao (26) s/o S Chaoba of thanga-Lawai Awang maning Leikai.
In his confessional statement, Borchandra named a distant relative whom he identified as Dhiren of Wangoo Sandankhong persuading Borchandra and Bidyasagar to serve KCP (Lamphel) demand notes to earn some easy money.
The demand notes were subsequently procured from a Kongpal Kongkham Leikai resident.
Dhiren came into contact at RIMS Hospital on April 18 where Dhiren's aunt was being treated, recounted the youth who along with Bidyasagar are originally rickshaw pullers.
After a demand note of Rs 2 lakh served to one Basant (Bank Manager) of porompat was settled for Rs 2000 only Dhiren claimed Rs 1100, maintained Borchandra.
The remaining demand note was changed into KCP (P) group at one Fancy shop located in Uripok area from where five copies were made.
Rent owner, where the two youths were staying at Lamphel, identified as Panganbam Captain from Thoubal is said to have assisted the duo in converting the demand notes/letter heads.
The copied demand notes were served to two doctors, including one lady doctor at RIMS colony on May 19 demanding five mobile handsets each out of whom the lady doctor complied with two handsets the very next day.
After the male doctor set May 29 for handing over the mobile phone handsets at Lamphel Super Market area some UNLF cadres showed-up and nabbed the two youths while waiting for the doctor, narrated Borchandra.
On the otherhand, Bidyasagar said he was relieved by the KYKL on health ground in November 2004 and was even nabbed by locals and jailed for infidelity after severing ties with the UG group.
His modus operandi in Borchandra's company include extracting monetary penalties from small time traders in Imphal area for selling banned tobacco products by brandishing a country-made pistol allegedly provided by P Captain.
The youth who was administered similar punishment at Imphal East district is identified as Thangjam Ananda alias Itamba (23) s/o (L) Th Kunjo of Khurai Chingabam Leikai.
He was shot twice on the legs.
Earlier, speaking to newspersons Ananda said he along with a Kuki colleague deserted Wangbrel Task force of the UNLF in October 2004.Ananda's misadventure include serving demand letter of Rs 10,000 to one Kh Indrajit of Kongba on May 15 and on receiving the amount it was handed over to one Johnson with the latter parting Rs 250 and a mobile handset.
Before being picked up from Porompat Super Market Complex, Ananda confessed to serving notes and demanding mobile phone handsets to a Lilong College lecturer (Rs 4000), one SE Salam (Rs 10,000) and a Veterinary doctor named Krishnamohan (three hand sets) in between May 28 till his capture.
Asserting that UNLF would not spare anybody found to be misusing the organisation's name a spokesman also asked Ananda's associates to surrender immediately.
Meanwhile, police reports suggest the three youths have been recovered with bullet wounds from different locations.
