Imphal, April 01: The proscribed RPF today awarded capital punishment on a man on charges of being a member of a gang responsible for extorting money from the public in the name of the KRA.

The deceased was also accused of working in cahoots with one police commando with whom he shared the money extorted from the public.

The alleged extortionist eliminated by the RPF is identified as Laishram Ibungo (34) son of Brajamohan of Keishamthong Hodam Leirak.

The body of Ibungo was found near an LP School at Thongju Part II today at about 9.30 pm.

Ibungo was rounded up by RPF cadres from Singjubung Leirak yesterday at about 8.30 pm along with a country made 9 mm pistol and three live rounds.

Parading him before the media today, a spokesman of the outfit said that the gang is led by one Luwang alias Haopu.

The other gang members, Asem Rameshwar of Konjeng Hazari Leikai and Khangembam Raju of Keishamthong Hodam Leirak have been warned to surrender within five days time.

The spokesman added that the PRO of KRA, N Hangsing had informed RPF that the gang members have already been expelled from the outfit.

Another gang member, Somorendra of Singjamei Chinga Mathak has been released with stern warning as his involvement was not serious, said the spokesman.
