Imphal, March 31: Taking strong exception to the gruesome murder of Hrini Hubert and Muheni Martin and the subsequent discovery of their skeletal remains even as some suspects were already in the custody of NSCN (IM), president of the United Committee, Manipur (UCM) Konsam Langamba has accused the UG outfit for providing sanctuary to the kidnappers.

Langamba was speaking in the annual assembly session of UCM at MDU Hall.

Questioning rationale behind the inaction of NSCN(IM) even after the two kids were brutally murdered, he construed that the outfit has been shielding the culprits.

During the annual session, a booklet highlighting development works undertaken by UCM in 2006 in collaboration with the Department of Tribal Development and annual report including account statement of last year was also released.

Many women leaders who came to attend the annual session lamented at the apparent degeneration and isolation of the UCM which was established after unifying numerous social organisations.

They conveyed desire to make UCM a powerful body once again which would be characterised by internal unity like in the past.

A social worker PT Luwang of Jiribam observed that integrity of Manipur can not be safeguarded unless all the people settling in every nook and cranny of the State join hands and stand together as one.

Asserting that most of the crimes in the State is caused by drug abuse, he called upon the people to stay away from intoxicating drugs as far as possible.
