Eight aspiring MLAs who are set compete in the third phase of the State Assembly polls today filed their nominations at the Deputy Commissioner�s official chamber.
Four of the eight candidates who have filed their nominations are debutants while the old hands include PHE Minister TN Haokip, former MP Kim Gangte, ex-MLA N Zatawn and Chungkhosei.
TN Haokip (INC) and Chungkhosei Haokip (Lok Janshakti) are in the fray at 59-Saikot AC.
P Songlianlal (NCP), N Zatawn (RJD) and Zabiaksang (BJP) for 56-Thanlon AC � a segment expected to entertain the maximum number of contenders.
Former MP Kim Gangte (CPI), and Sehpu Haokip (JDU) for 57-Henglep AC and Pumzadou (Samajwadi) for 58-CCpur AC.
As the election fever hots up in the district with each candidate searching for innovative ways to woo the electorates, its effect on the integrity of various institutions is slowly coming to the fore.
H Mangchinkhup, under whose leadership the district once revolted against the SPF Government and even ransacked the police station, has decided to step aside by resigning as the president of the Siamsinpawlpi � Paite Students Association to become the chief agent of an incumbent MLA.
While T Phungzathang chose to be the first individual to file his nomination paper in the district with hundreds of vehicles carrying his supporters, P Songlianlal opted for a JCB ride.
Three NPP candidates including its President, former Minister V Hangkhanlian, Hangkhanpau and Langkhanpau, all serious contenders are planning a foot march to do the same tomorrow.
