Four Assam Rifles personnel including the CO of 10th Bn under the 26 Sector and one JCO were injured in a shoot out with UNLF cadres at Eigyang south of Sajik Tampak under Chakpikarong police station in Chandel district yesterday at about 3 pm.
On being contacted the PRO of Assam Rifles confirmed the injury caused to the CO but added that he suffered only minor injuries.
All the injured personnel including the CO have been evacuated to the Leimakhong Army hospital.
Assam Rifles PRO in a statement however said that three and not four personnel including the JCO were injured.
The statement said that the shoot out occurred when the militants opened fire at the AR post.
In the ensuing gun fight one UNLF cadre identified as Ngamba was killed, claimed AR and added that another cadre was injured.
PRO of PIB informed that the four personnel were hurt and added that a re-inforcement team sent to the site ran into an ambush laid by the UNLF cadres.
The troops however managed to break through the ambush and killed one UNLF cadre and inflicted injuries on another.
A spokesman of the UNLF informed the press that the gun fight ensued from 2 pm till 5 pm and added that one cadre identified as L Nganba alias Khagemba was killed.
No other cadre was hurt.
According to information received by the press, all the injured Assam Rifles personnel have been evacuated to Army Hospital at Leimakhong.
