Pledging all possible assistance in checking and preventing mass bamboo flowering in the State, Director General of forests JC Kala said the support extended to control the unwanted eventuality is the most important aspect at the current juncture.
Addressing mediapersons at the conference hall of the State Forest Department today, JC Kala, who is also the special Secretary (Forest) disclosed that bamboo flowering phenomenon in the entire North East region dominated the two day workshop which concluded at State guest House today.
He contended that Central authorities are awaiting a report of the Review Committee set up to examine the devastating phenomenon so that remedial and preventive measures could be implemented in time.
Responding to a query, the DG conveyed that Central Government has received a draft proposal from the State Government to confer the World heritage Centre status on Keibul Lamjao National Park for which consent of the UNESCO is a necessity.
The UNESCO approval is awaited, he added.
Joining the media briefing, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest S Singsit affirmed the department�s commitment and strong resolve to upgrade Manipur Zoological Garden in all its aspect including accommodation of available animal and bird species.
