A public meeting held at Ithai Bazar today in connection with the last night exchange of fire between PREPAK activists and personnel of 100 BSF attached at Ithai barrage, has resolved to restrict the entry of any UG if such incidents recur in the area.
Last night's incident has caused damage to at least 11 shops and residential houses located in Ithai Bazar area.
While the firing exchange was going on the people of the area reportedly scurried for cover under the beds.
The meeting held at Ithai Bazar today was attended by a large number of representatives of meira paibis and NGOs from Ithai Khunou, Ithai Barrage, Warukok, Kompuk, Wapokpi, Laikong and Nongmaikhong apart from representatives of AMSU.
The meeting decided to appeal to both the security personnnel and underground activists to ensure such shoot out do not take place in populated areas.
The meeting further decided not to extend any sort of co-operation to both the parties if they do not comply with the aspiration of the people, besides taking recourse to agitational move.
UNLF man held: A combined force of Bishnupur Police commandos and personnel of 11 Garhwal Rifles posted at Moirang and 7 Assam Rifles reportedly apprehended an activist of the proscribed UNLF from Moirang Lamkhai at around1.45 pm yesterday.
The arrested activist has been identified as Salam James alias Landamba alias Albertson alias Santosh (23) s/o Ingobi of Ningthoukhong ward no.6 Kha-Leikai.
According to police source, James is a lance corporal of the outfit who belongs to its 17th batch.
